In order to aid me and the rest of my group with the planning stage of our music video, I have created five moodboards, related to themes which I felt were quite strong elements, based on our initial ideas. The moodboards contain images related to a specific category, and should help with the generation of structured ideas, when it comes to the more detailed section of planning. Each of the moodboards can be expanded by clicking anywhere on the image.

The first element that I did a moodboard for was ‘London & Christmas’, London being the city where the narrative section of me and my group’s music video is set to take place, and Christmas being the time where we plan to film the narrative section of our music video, creating a Christmas festive element for it. Below are various images showing different parts of London, iconic features, such as the London Eye, and various times of day, as well as different weather. This moodboard will aid me with the visualisation of how locations can be used within the music video, and may also be useful as a starting indicator for location scouting, prior to the shoot.

This next moodboard is comprised of images related to ‘Trendy Girls’, and can be seen below. I have put this moodboard together, as one of the elements I and the rest of my group plan to incorporate into our video is to feature girls outdoors having with together, and enjoying their day. This element is strongly present in a lot of House music videos, and most commonly the girls tend to look and dress quite trendy, and creatively. Some of the images below are related to winter, as the shoot for the narrative section of the music video is planned to occur around Christmas time, meaning that we will most probably be including winter elements in the story, as an alternative to a summer feel, most common in House music videos.

The third moodboard that I have put together is based on the concept of ‘masked entities’, and the art of ‘no identity’, which can be seen below. Masked guys or entities is an element that I and the rest of my group wish to explore in our music video, as it allows us to subvert the lyrics, ‘Everybody wants to be somebody’, as wearing a mask, thus losing your identity, means that you are no longer somebody. The anonymous or ‘V for vendetta’ mask is notoriously infamous for its use in protests, computer hacks, or society gatherings, and has worked well for the concealing of people’s identity. In contrast, a plain white mask also aids with the hiding of one’s identity, as a plain face, could be linked to having no emotion or no physical being. Unintentionally, a lot of the images on this moodboard were monochromatic, so when I placed a colourful image it didn’t fit in well, so instead of binning that image, I just made it black and white as well, creating this mysterious and airy theme to the moodboard, which I feel suits it a lot better, as no colour relates to having less worth, and therefore not being significant.

My fourth moodboard, seen below, is entitled ‘dance element’, and explores what I feel would be comparable for the ideas that I and my group have for the element of dance within our music videos. One of our key ideas is to have a dance off as the medium for a conflict, between the innocent girls outside having fun, and the masked guys. Some of the images below are related to dance offs, or dancers all dancing in synchronisation. The colours and shots below are also inspiration towards how I and my group could potentially style our dance element.

My last moodboard that represents a key theme that I and my group plan to feature in our music video is the ‘performance element’. Performance of a band or artist is present in almost every music video out there, especially in House and Dance music videos. Some of the key instruments that can be picked up from the track that we are using, include a Piano, female’s vocals, Control Pad, Electric Drum kit, and synthesised audio features. With this in mind, I tried to relate the images I selected below with what I felt represented the track as best as possible, so that I and the rest of my group can come up with productive concepts and ideas.

Ultimately, I believe that these five moodboards will aid us with a lot of inspiration, whether we keep them in our music video or not. Additionally, when we are planning for our music video in great detail, I feel that if the moodboards are printed out and placed on a desk in front of us, we could make connections with elements, colours, themes, and concepts that will all go towards a stronger music video.
