The advert which I have chosen to analyse is: Anthems House - Ministry of Sound (Advert) [61], which can be seen embedded below. I have chosen to analyse this advert, as it falls within the House genre, which is the genre that I and the rest of my group are planning to use for our music video. This advert features a title for the band or artist, while it plays a short number of seconds of that track, with a 3D rendering of cinematic close up shots of the Ministry of Sound logo, which is then shown, to be the album art, at the end of the advert.

This advert is effective in terms of giving people a little snippet or preview of the music that the album would be containing. The colour scheme also matches the album art throughout, making the entire advert more visually appealing, as a pose to if a lot of random colours were used. The advert lasts thirty seconds, in which I feel is a great length, because the advert is not too long, making it boring, or making you want to look elsewhere, it is in fact just long enough to hear a couple of tracks from the album, some of which are recognisable, and will therefore draw audiences in, especially if they are interested into the House genre.

Overall, I really like this advert, and wouldn’t mind seeing it on TV, as it is not annoying, and succeeds in enticing me towards looking at the album, and even possibly purchasing it. The fact that the advert also has narration towards the end, where the narrator introduces the album, and states what it includes, also makes it more successful, as no matter who is watching, that person will now have a clear idea of what the album is about, and the type of music that it includes. I will not be creating an advert as part of my project, alongside Amid and Trenay. Instead, we would either have to create, two of the following: A Website, A Digipak, or a Magazine Advert.

ADVERT ANALYSIS

Below, is a magazine advert for the Ministry of Sound [62], which was created quite a long time ago. The colours are very complimentary, and the font size is readable, as well as fitting the House and Dance genre styles. The fact that some of the text is larger than others, draws attention to this text, giving it greater importance on the magazine, drawing people in to read it, as a pose to, if everything consisted of the same size. The Ministry of Sound logo is clearly present at the top of the magazine, which will inform the reader about what the magazine is about, whether they know anything about the Ministry of Sound, or not.

This magazine is dated to 2001, which is quite outdated. However, it still conforms to the conventions that are expected in modern times. If my group decide to do a magazine advert, we will be able to take some inspiration from this advert, and incorporate what we like into our own.
